This is the story of how I learned to birth my business, so I could help you birth yours.

I spent nearly 20 years teaching in the classroom, following the “safe” path, ticking all the right boxes — and slowly losing myself in the process. I was unfulfilled, overstretched, and painfully aware that something inside me was meant for more. My divorce was a catalyst for me searching for something to light me up. I got my first taste of entrepreneurship back in 2009 when I joined Herbalife. That world of personal growth, vision boards and big dreams hit me like a lightning bolt. Why had no one ever taught us this as teachers? I was hooked. That spark led me to study with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and qualify in 2014 as a certified Health Coach. I felt alive again — but was still holding onto the safe job that was making me ill, stressed and stuck as I was afraid of the unknown.

Then everything changed. A false accusation from a student became the final straw. I walked away from teaching, launched my nutrition business and stepped out as The Sugar Woman, ready to change lives. Only… the clients didn’t come. I was used to the system delivering my students. Suddenly I had to learn how to market, sell, build websites, post on social media, write copy, speak at events, and master tech I didn’t even know existed.

So, I kept learning and gaining qualifications (maybe you are too? ) as I thought that was the solution.

Over many years (and spending many thousands of pounds) I trained in Hypnotherapy, NLP, EFT, Life Coaching and Quantum Regression plus gained further qualifications in Nutritional Therapy but I was still struggling to attract consistent clients. Eventually I paid for a business mentor and he encouraged me to create my own brand — Tame Your Sugar Monster — and I started helping women kick sugar addiction by blending mindset work and nutrition.

At last, things began to click. I got structure. Nailed my branding. Shifted my mindset. And finally started attracting the right clients — the kind who wanted real transformation and where willing to pay me well for it. My bank account transformed and I at last felt like I had a 'real' business.

The moment everything changed again?

When I was invited to become a Business Mentor for a startup programme.

I was given 35 businesses to support, each at the beginning of their journey — and over 16 sessions, my role was to help them move from struggling and uncertain to earning real income.

I LOVED it!!!

I realised how much I knew — and how much I loved helping others bring their visions to life.

One client called me his Business Midwife after I helped him birth his business idea into reality. The name stuck. That’s when I knew: This is what I was born to do. So I built a brand around the name. And when the company made the whole team redundant shortly after — I didn’t feel crushed. I felt free!

Now? I’m in my happy place. I work with coaches, therapists, and heart-led women who are tired of waiting, doubting, and hiding — and are ready to start.

You don’t need another certificate. You don’t need to be perfect. You just need someone who’s been where you are — and who knows how to walk you through the fog, step by step. That’s what I do as The Business Midwife.
